Why CIPP Solutions Are the Smart Choice for Pipe Rehabilitation

When a pipe becomes damaged, whether it’s on a commercial site or in a public space, the issues arise incredibly quickly. Not only does pipe damage result in leaks and a drop in pressure, carrying water to or waste away from its main sites, but it also leads to flooding and disruption in the local area.

Having a fast response plan is integral for local councils and engineers alike.

But it’s not just the response time that needs to be quick and efficient. By today’s standards, time is money and sustainability is everything, meaning that not only do engineers need to act fast, but they need to employ tactics which are environmentally friendly, and which reinstate the pipe to full working order as quickly as possible.

What are CIPP Solutions?

CIPP solutions, also known as Cured-In-Place Pipe solutions, use an innovative technique first introduced by our founder, Eric Wood, in 1971.

The idea is to scrap the need to excavate, remove, and replace pipes, and instead work to restore them to full use through a unique method of repair. This method cures the pipe with a new layer on its inside wall, while leaving the pipe firmly in position, and it’s done using a specially formulated felt lining.

The felt lining is embedded with resin and remains flexible enough to be fed into the pipe with ease from above ground. This resin is activated using hot water or steam, fixing to the inside wall of the pipe before hardening to form a new layer.

The design and structure of this resin are such that it renders the pipe strong enough to withstand pressure from inside the pipe and excess weight from outside the pipe.

All of this, without having to remove or expose the pipe – saving time, money, and the environment.

The Benefits of CIPP Solutions

Having identified the need for an efficient yet effective response to damaged pipes and the destruction that they can cause, let’s consider the benefits of CIPP liners more closely.

These liners can be fed into pipes and restore them to full operational use, without needing to dig up or remove the pipe. This brings with it a wave of environmental benefits, protecting habitats and landscapes, and minimising the demand on resources and machinery.

What’s more, CIPP liners and solutions are cost-effective. Cutting back on machinery and on the time needed to rehabilitate the pipe means that the costs of CIPP solutions are much lower than traditional pipe replacement. From a community perspective and when considering the local economy, CIPP liners also restore the pipe to full use more quickly so that the local area can recover and reinstate business at a faster rate.

And then there’s the added extras that come with Insituform CIPP solutions, such as the use of recycled materials in forming the felt liners, and the commitment to recycling up to 90% of the waste produced during manufacturing. Every felt liner is made up of around 75% recycled material, creating another link to environmental benefits – and yet another reason why CIPP solutions are the modern solution to damaged pipes.

How to Utilise CIPP Solutions

Insituform has been the market leader in CIPP solutions since 1971 and delivers both the products themselves and comprehensive training packages to local engineers who want to become local experts in the use of CIPP solutions.
